Buy and sell crypto anywhere, instantly. Coinme is the easiest way to buy or sell crypto using cash or debit instantly. Our unique phygital ecosystem of 21,000+ trusted retail locations and 4+ star mobile apps make crypto accessible, safe, and simple for all.

Because Coinme is a custodial crypto wallet, the experience of setting up and using the app is quick and intuitive. You go through basic KYC (Know Your Customer) and are up and running within a minute. A large majority of our customers are simply using our services for payments and have very little knowledge about Bitcoin or Blockchain technology.

For consumers, Coinme is solving the problem of digital currency access by bridging the gap between cash and crypto. You can find one of 21,000+ locations within 5 miles nearly anywhere in the U.S. (all states except NY and NV). This physical experience is paired directly with a digital wallet with Buy, Sell, Send, Receive, and Custody services.

For businesses and partners, CaaS can crypto-enable traditional financial services as well as any point-of-sale hardware.

The New (Physical) User

As of today, the majority of new Coinme users are buying Bitcoin at a Coinstar kiosk found in most supermarkets in America. How does this work?

  • Google Bitcoin ATM or spotting a kiosk at a retailer

  • Drive to the supermarket

  • Find the Coinstar kiosk

    • Select Buy Crypto

    • Enter Mobile Phone Number (this is the primary link to an account)

    • Accept the Terms & Conditions

    • Insert Cash & Confirm

    • Print Redemption Voucher

  • Download the Coinme app (or web - KYC approved account required) and select ‘Redeem a Coinstar Voucher’ from the Transact button

The New (Digital) User

In late 2021 we launched the Coinme app for iOS and Android (both averaging over 4.5 stars) and have slowly been enabling new features. This has allowed us to capture a new user who is more crypto-savvy but still seeks the simple nature of our low-friction user experience. Users can now buy and sell digitally using their Visa debit or prepaid card. How does this work?

  • Search the app store for Buy Crypto

  • Download the app and create an account

  • Link a debit card

  • Buy crypto in seconds

Customer Issues

A common complaint we hear from customers is centered around fees. While this isn’t necessarily a UX issue, it is a customer issue - and a tricky one to solve.

Because a large majority of crypto is on the Ethereum blockchain as ERC-20 tokens, it is subjected to potentially high gas fees in order to pay miners for approving transactions on the network (not a Coinme fee).

One potential way to solve this is to integrate access to other blockchains that allow for fast and cheap transactions. We’ve started this with USDC on Stellar. As a Coinme user, you will be able to choose between sending and receiving on Ethereum or Stellar.

Both networks have their own use-cases, but we think this is going to be a big win for customers looking to remit a stablecoin at a low cost.

Crypto-enabling TradFi

One way to acquire new customers is to meet them where they are. Convincing someone to switch their banking service, mobile phone carrier, etc, is a fool’s errand.

Together with internal stakeholders at Coinme, we collaborated together to build out these prototype demos to showcase just how easy the user experience can be to buy, sell, send, and receive crypto from the Banno Digital Banking app their customers know and love.

What I would do with a playground:

Our current app has very little functionality. While that will be changing over the coming months with new features, we can give users a more interesting window-shopping experience. Give users a reason to come back.

  • Educational information about each coin

  • Clear portfolio view of holdings

  • Complete redesign of each wallet with a focus on education

  • Totally reimagined retail location discover experience
